Bottom clash sees Bexley bum
A 'six pointer' sees Bexley earn no points
A bit of a parky day meant that once more the smell of burning wood was in the air. But without our resident woodsman (Bourney), there was no way of identifying what type of tree was being incinerated. Howard had a guess, and considering his experience I was expecting great things. But he had no idea what the fuel was, so by his own admission H just doesn’t get wood anymore. I think it makes him nervous; coffins are made of it after all.
This will be one of my shorter match reports, as frankly there was not match to report on from a Bexley perspective. Old Gs proved far too much of a spirited opposition for us, giving as a right royal drubbing. A Bexley team can never be faulted for effort, and once more this was the case. But it seemed that our get up and go had got up and gone; we just seemed flat. Had complacency set in? Also defensively we looked naïve; being seemingly unable to cope with Old Gs simple (but effective) game plan. Their outside half and right left winger particularly stood out.
From a Bexley perspective the plus points were few. But ten minutes from the end we showed what we were capable of with some sustained possession rugby. Also Jack Mills was a constant thorn in the opposition’s side; Bryce Redmill’s tackling was nothing short of immense, as was Jim Moore’s ball carrying. Jim once more made every one doubt he used to be a centre with his Zoidberg claws knocking on on the try line. He proved he is a veteran as well and is qualified for the match on the 24th; harking back to the old days when an opposition player was illegally on the wrong side of the ruck. The ref showed he was not a veteran however; Jim’s overly careful foot placement still earning a rebuke from the ref. Actually everything we did seemed to earn a rebuke from the ref!
